Bridging the Gap with Supportive Housing

Empowering individuals with disabilities to become more adaptive, self-determined, and independent is a step in bridging the gap between housing needs and availability. By offering resources, options, and training to families and their loved ones, SAIL Home strives to give families step-by-step guidance in how to find or create supported living options. Supported housing, assistive technology, job training, and integration into the community are all factors that will help improve the lives of adults with disabilities so that they can reach their fullest potential.

SAIL Home Scituate

A home is a haven that provides safety and a place of comfort. It holds our hopes and dreams and allows us to be ourselves. SAIL Home wishes this for all individuals, and we seek to create housing models to support those who live there to live their best lives.

  • Four residential units accommodating up to eight individuals with IDD and/or autism.
  • Commercial space for rental purposes to another nonprofit tenant.
  • A Remote Support Monitoring (RSM) office that will house a 24/7 call center that will provide real-time support services to the individuals.
  • A Community Center with a kitchen, exercise studio, and media room.
  • All units will be equipped with the latest assistive technology to foster greater independence.
  • Two apartments will accommodate live-in support.

Resources

Through the New Futures Initiative (NFI) training with the Center for Independent Futures, the professional background of our board, and the experiences of our founding members, SAIL Home has an extensive range of knowledge to share with families who are looking to find or create supported housing opportunities that best meet the needs for their loved one. This may include funding pathways, assistive technology, service delivery models, how to form a “family group” of others who want to create housing, and housing options. Contact us for more information.

Technology

Assistive technologies (AT) include devices, tools, and equipment which are designed to enhance a person’s functional skills and foster independence. AT has an abundance of benefits it affords people who have IDD and/or autism. It can address a variety of challenges people face daily regarding social interactions, health and hygiene, safety, communication, and improving a person’s quality of life. Types of AT range from visual schedules to medication dispensers to remote support monitoring systems. Assistive technology may lead to the reduction of staff check-ins, more autonomy, and more privacy.

SAIL Home Scituate will incorporate AT into its residences based on the specific needs of the individuals who will live there. For some individuals, this may mean Apple air tags, smart ovens, anti-scald shower devices, and ring doorbells.

Contact SAIL Home to learn more about assistive technology and how it may help promote independence for your loved one.
